Golden and bronze medal-winning athletes Tommy Smith and John Carlos of the United States give the “Black Power salute” during the medal ceremony for the men’s 200 meter race on October 16, 1968 at the Summer Olympic Games held in Mexico City.  John Carlos, who recently spoke at Occupy Wall Street, is of Cuban descent.
